    Synthetic
    Application
    Blocking Peptide (BP), ELISA
    Cross-Reactivity (Details)
UCP5 may be alternatively spliced to produced at least 3 transcripts: UCP5L has a unique 22-aa unique N-terminal sequence, UCP5S is missing 3 aa (23-25 aa) and UCP5S has 31 aa insertion between TM II-IV. The UCP5 sequence is conserved in all 3 isoforms in rat and mouse UCP5. It is 94 % conserved in human UCP5/BMCP1. UCP5 has no appreciable homology with UCP1-4. This peptide is not suitable for western blot because of its low mol. Wt.
    Characteristics
A synthetic UCP5 peptide for use as a blocking control in assays to test for specificity of UCP5 antibody,
Alternative Names: UCP-5 Blocking peptide, UCP 5 Blocking peptide, UCP5 Blocking peptide, UCP5, UCP-5, UCP 5, UCP-5 Blocking Peptide, UCP 5 Blocking Peptide

  • Format
    Lyophilized
    Reconstitution
Reconstitute in PBS to a concentration of 1 mg/mL. Do not dilute further until ready to use.
    Buffer
    Lyophilized from PBS, pH 7.5, with 0.05 % NaN3.
    Preservative
    Sodium azide
    Precaution of Use
WARNING: Reagents contain sodium azide. Sodium azide is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copious amounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodium azide yields toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide-containing compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead or copper plumbing.
    Handling Advice
    Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

    Background
Uncoupling proteins (UCP1-5) are a family of mitochondria transport proteins that play a critical role in thermoregulatory heat production and maintenance of basal metabolic rate. UCP3 is predicted to contain 6 transmembrane domains. UCP5 or Brain Mitochondrial Carrier Protein 1 or BMCP1 (human 322 aa, chromosome Xq24, ~35 % identity with UCP1-3) is mainly expressed in the brain and testis.
