- Background
- Hpgd, also known as Hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase, is a member of the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases family. It metabolizes prostaglandins (PGs) to render them. Prostaglandins (PGs) play a crucial role in mediating parturition events, and their synthesis and metabolism are regulated by PGH synthase and 15-hydroxy-PG dehydrogenase (PGDH), respectively. Hpgd, a COX-2 oncogene antagonist, is a TGF-beta-induced suppressor of human gastrointestinal cancers. Recombinant mouse Hpgd protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
