- Background
- SDC2, also known as syndecan 2, is a conserved family of heparan- and chondroitin-sulfate carrying transmembrane protein. It is a cell membrane proteoglycans that can modulate the activity and dynamics of some growth factor receptors and integrins. It is expressed in hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), a key cell type involved in matrix deposition in liver fibrotic disorders. It has been implicated in the formation of specialized membrane domains and functions as a direct link between the extracellular environment and the organization of the cortical cytoplasm. Recombinant human SDC2, fused to His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in insect cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
