- Background
- PDXK converts vitamin B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP), an essential cofactor in the intermediate metabolism of amino acids and neurotransmitters. The encoded protein is cytoplasmic and probably acts as a homodimer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined. Recombinant human PDXK protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: Pyridoxal kinase, PKH, PNK, PRED79, Pyridoxine kinase. NCBI no.: NP_003672
