- Background
- HMGB3 (High Mobility Group-Box 3) belongs to the high mobility group box (HMG-box) subfamily. It has 99 % homology with HMGB1 and HMGB2. This subfamily has a HMG-box, so it can regulate gene transcription by participating with formation of enhancesomes. The HMG-box subfamily also plays an important role in DNA replication, transcription, recombination and repair, etc. HMGB3 has been reported to have high expression in embryos and weak expression in adult tissues. HMGB3 is important in keeping the balance between self-renewal and differentiation status in mouse hematopoietic stem cells.
