This antibody recognises CD18 (LFA-1), a 95-100 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed as a heterodimer with CD11a, b or c. Functionally it inhibits homotypic aggregation of PHA blasts. It also blocks binding of rat lymphocytes to purified rat ICAM-1.
Purification
Affinity chromatography on Protein G
Immunogen
FTL-43. Lymph node cells from immunised BALB/c mice were fused with cells from the PAI mouse myeloma cell line.
CD18 is an integrin. Integrins are integral cell surface proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. A given chain may combine with multiple partners resulting in different integrins. For example, beta 2 combines with the alpha L chain to form the integrin LFA1, and combines with the alpha M chain to form the integrin Mac1. Integrins are known to participate in cell adhesion as well as cell surface mediated signalling. CD18 is expressed by most leucocytes. Defects in the CD18 gene result in leukocyte adhesion deficiency.Synonyms: 95 subunit beta, Cell surface adhesion glycoproteins LFA-1/CR3/p150, Complement receptor C3 subunit beta, Integrin beta-2, MFI7
