The isoprene biosynthetic pathway supply the cell with cholesterol, ubiquinone, and various nonsterol metabolites. The farnesylpyrophosphate synthetase enzyme catalyzes the formation of geranyl and farnesylpyrophosphate from isopentenylpyrophosphate and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate.
