Purpose: Synuclein-alpha is a protein encoded by the SNCA gene which is approximately 14,5 kDa. Synuclein-alpha is localised to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is involved in respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis by chemiosmotic coupling, proteolysis role of parkin in the ubiquitin-proteasomal pathway and Chks in checkpoint regulation. This protein falls under the synuclein family. Synuclein-alpha inhibits phospholipase D2 selectively and may serve to integrate presynaptic signalling and membrane trafficking. Synuclein-alpha is expressed in the brain. Mutations in the SNCA gene may result in autosomal dominant Parkinson disease. STJ95862 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of synuclein-alpha protein.
