    Background
Mdm2 also interacts with the retinoblastoma (RB) protein and E2F-1, to promote G1-S phase transition in the cell cycle. Mdm2 activity is controlled by self-ubiquitination, however activation of the PI3K/PKB pathway leads to phosphorylation of Mdm2 at Ser185, which stabilises the protein.Synonyms: Double minute 2 protein, E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase Mdm2, Hdm2, Oncoprotein Mdm2, p53-binding protein Mdm2
